The Meraloma Cricket Club rocks! Great people, great times and great memories! Once a Loma, always a Loma!
Match Report : Meraloma III vs Bengal tigers I (April 22)
After a full pre-season that began on Saturday, Meraloma 3 arrived at Upper Brockton on Sunday chock full of confidence. But the season got off to a shaky start - after losing the toss, the good guys found themselves in the field watching the first ball of the innings being slashed over second slip for 4.
The early bowling lacked penetration and it was only when newly crowned vice-captain Len Layton was brought into the attack bowling his assortment of fire crackers, that things started to happen. A couple of lbw’s from Layton, a couple of wickets from Moloney, and a beautiful yorker from the left arm mediums of new recruit Mike Cohen, and the game had turned Lomas way.
But having made inroads into the lower middle order, the bowlers let the Tigers’ tail wag. The final score of 144 was 30 or 40 more than the game plan called for. The game plan also called for batsmen making runs, but the openers didn’t trouble the scorers at all and the middle order didn’t trouble the scorers much. After a year-long hiatus, David Bell returned to the crease only to be promptly sent packing by an overzealous ump. At 4-28 it appeared that the solid pre-season was all for zip. And so it went.
The only bright light for the batting side was the performance of 16 year old Cooper Hart who impressed with 21. The final score of 74 was also definitely not in the game plan. A disappointing effort for sure, but nowhere near as disappointing as the dismal Canucks playoff performance. (Report by Dave Pitts).
